You Gotta Start Somewhere
If you’re anything like me, you like to start your browsing day with a start page or “portal” that caters to your daily dose of online interests.
Sure there are the more well-known, corporate portals that allow their own brand of personalization [iGoogle, myYahoo, Microsoft Live]. But quite often these mainstays include “value added” content or sponsored links that interfere with your personalized experience. So if you crave to have something a bit more streamlined (or you’d rather have quick access to the aforementioned 3), Fav4 is worth a serious look.
Here’s how it works: You visit Fav4 and click on the customization gear in the lower-right hand corner of the screen. From the resulting menu, select your most visited sites from the collection on offer. If one of your favorites isn’t listed, you can suggest a new one.

Drag your top four sites from the left -> right onto the tiered side bar, and then click “Save Settings”. Your favs will be remembered, and will display as four large icons when you launch your browser of choice. There is no sign-up necessary as the site uses your browser’s cookies to remember your choices.
Personally I find the layout to be quite elegant, and since most surfers spend their time trolling only a handful of sites a day, the four attractive icons are more than sufficient to get me going in the right direction.
