Audi is about to release their next version of the MMI (Multi-Media Interface) for the A8. The MMI is what powers the navigation, radio and car systems.
With a high-capacity HD, a DVD drive and super-fast processors, it is much more versatile and its performance is higher than ever before. The new MMI’s first appearance will be in the A8 luxury sedan, but before long it will also be available for two other model lines.
The screens on the jump aren’t super-impressive, but the testing room itself is certainly awe-inspiring. I can imagine an Audi-powered LAN party, with the usual creature comforts we’ve come to expect from this luxury-turned-supercar manufacturer.
The new MMI will extend Audi’s lead over its competitors. It can be ordered (currently) for the A8 luxury sedan, and will be available soon in the Audi A6 and then in the new Audi Q5 performance SUV.
I’ve always liked Audi’s interface in general, as it offers simplicity and a pleasing visual and tactile experience in day-to-day operations. The A8’s exterior certainly complements its new innards, making it a tough package to beat in the luxury sedan category.
